Assessments

Throughout the year, students will be given a variety of assessment tasks in their subjects. These are designed to help teachers assess a student's understanding of course content, inform future teaching and contribute towards grades achieved on school reports.

At the commencement of each academic year, students are provided with an Assessment Booklet which outlines expectations and requirements with regards to assessment tasks.  The booklet includes a calendar of all due dates for assessments in each subject area as well specific assessment schedules for each subject. This enables the student and their parents/guardians to manage and monitor their workload throughout the year. An electronic version of this booklet is available at the bottom of this page.

Support for students to complete tasks

Should a student require additional assistance to that provided in the classroom, they are encouraged to talk to their class teacher who may be able to assist them during recess or lunch breaks.  The school library is open before school, at recess and lunch providing students with access to computers.  Teachers can also refer students to our ACTIVATE program where students are withdrawn from class in small groups to work on assessment tasks.

Course requirements and submission of tasks

Students are expected to be able to submit all their assessment tasks by the due date. If, for any reason, a student is unable to hand the task in on time, they will need to complete a misadventure form detailing the reason for their late submission.

Should a student want an extension they will need to complete the misadventure form and submit it to their teacher at least TWO days before the due date of the task. Extension requests that are not accompanied by a misadventure form will generally not be approved.

A copy of the misadventure form is available below.  Once completed, this should be returned to the Faculty Head Teacher or class teacher.

Students in Years 10-12 are required to follow NESA requirements for completion of courses. Any tasks not submitted by the due date will result in the student receiving an automatic zero for that task unless it is accompanied by a misadventure form which has been approved.

To satisfactorily meet course requirements students are still required to submit all tasks. Failure to submit assessment tasks may mean a student is in jeopardy of not receiving their Record of School Achievement (RoSA). This can affect their study options in future years.  Students who have not submitted tasks will receive an N-warning letter which is an indication that they have overdue course work or assessment tasks which need to be completed.

All students are welcome to attend and receive support with homework or assessment tasks.

Late or non submission of tasks

If a student has not handed the task in by the due date and a misadventure form has not been received and approved, they will need to attend up to three lunchtime sessions in which they will be expected to complete the task.

A copy of the misadventure form is available below.  Once completed, this should be returned to the Faculty Head Teacher or class teacher.

Students and parents are also encouraged to read the Junior (7-9) Assessment Policy for further information available below.
